Join us as we welcome fellow CSSUG member and Microsoft Senior Escalation Engineer, John Sirmon as he presents "An introduction to PowerPivot for Excel and SharePoint."

 

Abstract:

This session will provide an introduction to PowerPivot for Excel and SharePoint.  Find out what PowerPivot is and why you would want to use it.  You will learn how to install and use PowerPivot on the client (Excel 2010) and Server (SharePoint 2010).  Find out how to load massive amounts of data in seconds from virtually any data source.  We will demonstrate how quick and easy it is to create a compelling BI solution with PowerPivot for Excel and publish to SharePoint 2010.  We will also demonstrate key features on the server side such as PowerPivot Gallery, PowerPivot Management Dashboard and Data Refresh.
 

Speaker's Bio:

John Sirmon is a Senior Escalation Engineer with the SQL Server Analysis Services Support team at Microsoft based in the Microsoft Regional Support Center in Charlotte, NC.  He has worked for Microsoft since March 2001 and began working with Microsoft® SQL Server™ over 10 years ago when he began his professional career as a consultant at PricewaterhouseCoopers.  He has extensive development experience with Microsoft Visual Studio and all the components of the Microsoft BI Stack.  His specialties include Analysis Services performance tuning, Reporting Services, SharePoint integration, troubleshooting Kerberos Authentication and PowerPivot for SharePoint.  John has presented topics ranging from Reporting Services SharePoint Integration to Analysis Services at SQL Server PASS Summits and Microsoft TechReady conferences.  He was the technical editor for Professional Microsoft PowerPivot for Excel and SharePoint and authored the Microsoft CSS course, SQL Server 2008 R2 PowerPivot for SharePoint.  John holds a B.S. degree in Business Administration from the Citadel, the Microsoft Certified Solution Developer (MCSD) and the Microsoft Certified Database Administrator (MCDBA) certifications.
